Rules and regulations
Rules and guidelines in connection with the behavior of students are essential to maintaining a proper learning atmosphere in school. While it does not appear as a subject, it underlies the whole educational structure. Discipline is training that develops self-control, character, orderliness, and efficiency. Conformity to commonly accepted norms of behavior, particularly with respect to the rights of others, is basic to the preservation of a positive school environment.
General Discipline guidelines
- All the students should be proud of their school and should maintain decorum and dignity not only in the school but, more importantly, outside the school, as well. Their behaviour and conduct should reflect the high standards the school has set itself and they should prove themselves worthy ambassadors of the institution.
- Disruption of any school related activity or mob attitude will be considered as a very serious offence.
- Irregular attendance, habitual illness and neglect of homework, disobedience and disrespect towards members of the staff, bad moral influence justify dismissal. Students are responsible to school authorities for their conduct within and outside the school.
- The use of bad languages and bad behaviour is out of place in this institution. Disciplinary action will be taken on Students who violate school regulations.
- No pupil will be permitted to go home during school hours. No pupil may leave the school premises without the permission of the Principal/Headmaster.
- Order and silence must be maintained when moving around the school premises. No yelling, running or horseplay is allowed.
- Children need to converse only in English.
- The school is not responsible for articles lost. It is not advisable to bring valuable articles such as expensive water bottles, fountain pens, gold ornaments, mobiles, i-pads, cameras, laptops, watch etc. to the school. Books and other belongings should be marked with the name and class. No student will be called to answer phone calls during class hours. Communication / storage devices / electronic devices should not be brought to school, any of the items brought to School will be confiscated by the school authorities and no request for returning such articles will be entertained.
- The school reserves the right to suspend students whose punctuality, diligence or progress in study and conduct (in and outside school) is consistently unsatisfactory.
- No books (Other than text books and school library books) may be brought to school without the Principal’s permission
- The use of mobile phones in school is prohibited. Breach of this regulation will lead to the phone being confiscated and a penalty of Rs.500 will be levied.
- No child will be excused from games, activities etc., unless a Medical Certificate is produced.
- Any kind of damage done in the school premises must be compensated by those who are responsible for the damage.
- Using profane language or possession of obscene literature or pictures is not permitted.
Classroom culture
- The classroom should be kept tidy and attractive. Scribbling on furniture or on walls is strictly forbidden.
- In the classroom, students should create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to productive study
- During the absence of the class teacher, the class-monitor will assume full responsibility for the order and discipline of the class.
- During school hours, no student is allowed to leave the classroom without the permission of the teacher or until the class is dismissed. The written permission of the Principal is required for a student to leave the premises of the school, during school hours. Breach of these rules will be viewed seriously.
- If the students eat their meals on the school campus or in the classrooms they must leave the place as clean as it was before. Wrappers, leaves etc., must be dropped in the dust bins provided on the campus.
- Each student should ensure that lights and fans are switched off when leaving the classroom.
- The student must come to school with all the required textbooks, notebooks, etc. needed for the day’s work. No borrowing or lending is permitted.
Bullying
- The act of bullying of intimidation goes against all tenets of socially accepted behavior. Offenses of this nature are considered serious and there is zero-tolerance for this.
Vandalism
- Vandalism of any kind will be taken as a serious offense
- Students must respect school property. Vandalism and theft will not be tolerated. Offenses of this nature are considered serious and dealt with severely.
- Any damage done in or about the school must be made good by the student who caused it, with actual cost or fine, or both.
Library
- Books are a treasure house of the information and a shared legacy of the school. They need to be cherished. Defacing, stealing of library books is an offense and will invite a consequence.
- The purpose of the Library is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This is accomplished by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in various formats; providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas.
- The Library is open during all school hours and is then closed.
- Reference books must be used in the library and cannot be checked out. Other books can be checked out for up to 7 days and can be renewed if no one else has requested the book.
School Uniform
- Established school uniforms will be worn every day. Disciplinary action will result when the student consistently fails to wear school uniforms.
- Strict uniformity is to be maintained
- Fashionable designs and fancy variations in shades are not permitted.
- Parents are advised to buy uniform from the school store to avoid variation of shades
- The uniforms that are dirty, torn, frayed, grubby, or unbecoming are not acceptable.
- Messages on clothing with the inappropriate meaning of advertising are unacceptable.
- Jewelry such as earrings, rings, ankle or wrist bracelets, and necklaces are unacceptable.
- Hairstyles should be modest and appropriate in length and design; with no exceptions. Unnatural styles that draw attention are unacceptable.
Lost and Found Items
- Students are themselves responsible for the safety of their books, pens, pencils, watches, tiffin carriers, or other articles they bring to the school. All articles found abandoned will be brought to the office and should be identified and claimed by the owner within a week.
- Students must inform their classroom teacher or duty teacher whenever their item is lost.
- Students should report and deposit found articles in the school office or to the class teacher.
Computer Lab
- Students are expected to use the school’s computer equipment both responsibly and productively. Students must have a staff member’s/teacher’s permission before touching or operating a computer, before using any specific software, or before uploading or downloading anything. They must access only those files that they have created or that have been created for their use.
- Students must respect the privacy of email messages. Stealing passwords, tampering with another’s email, sending offensive or intimidating messages, will lead to a strong disciplinary response.
- The Computer Lab is here for the use of all students at Doon Public School. The use, however, is a privilege and comes with some responsibility. Any student not demonstrating this responsibility may lose this privilege. Removal of any equipment, materials, or supplies without prior approval is strictly prohibited.
- Use During Class Time: On occasion, various classes may use the lab for uses deemed beneficial by the instructor. Students must be under close supervision and must follow instructions for class work when using the lab. Students who are to be in the class during assigned period must have priority to available units. They must not abuse this privilege.
- Use Outside Class: The lab is available to students for the completion of various school related tasks. These may be assignments given by a class, general research or practice. The lab, however, is not an entertainment center. Use for non-academic purposes is not a granted privilege. Use outside of class is not a priority during class periods. Staff, faculty, or anyone not a member of the class in session must not interfere with class proceedings and must not be occupying any unit or disrupting a class in session.
- Information accessed through the internet must be related to education. Pornography and other adult-content materials are absolutely prohibited and accessing them via the Internet is not part of this education at Doon Public School. Any student or user of the computer lab who violate and abuse computer lab policy will automatically forfeit Computer Lab privileges if found guilty.
Play Ground
- Students having a sports period must be with their sports teacher.
- Students may not leave the school grounds before the end of the session without permission from the sports teacher/Concerned in charge
Leave and Absenteeism/ Punctuality, Attendance
- Children need to be in school every working day. An absence will be excused only for reasons totally beyond one’s control. In case of sickness, a doctor’s certificate must be produced along with the parent’s letter. A strong view will be taken of the fabricated and fictitious medical certificates.
- Students who play truant from school, popularly known as bunking, and remain absent without the knowledge of their parents, guardians or faculty will be dealt with severely. Punishment could include suspension and eventual expulsion.
- Irregular attendance, perpetual disobedience or defiance to authority or conduct injurious to the moral tone of the school could result in the student being asked to leave the school.
- Parents must refrain from sending students afflicted by contagious diseases to school, even during examinations, as they are health hazards for the other students.
- No pupil who has recently been suffering from any infectious or contagious illness, like measles, chicken-pox and conjunctivitis (red-eyes) will not be allowed to attend school until permission has been granted by a registered medical practitioner.
- Parents seeking leave for their guardians must submit a written application.
- Pupils must be punctual for class on every working day. No pupil must absent himself/herself without obtaining leave in advance.
- No absentee or late comers should enter the class without the written permission of the Principal.
- All pupils must be present on the first and last working day of each term.
- Continuous absence without a leave letter for a week shall be considered equivalent to the withdrawal of pupils from school and his/her name will be struck off from the Register.
- If an occasion arises that the pupil has to go earlier than the leaving time, he has to produce a note from his/her parent.
Sickness or Accident
- Students who become sick at school will be cared for by staff till parents are contacted. In serious cases, immediate attention will be obtained while parents are being notified but all medical costs are the responsibility of the parents. Simple first aid will be applied at the school for minor cuts and abrasions, etc. The school will not be held liable for accidents that may occur as proper supervision is given by the staff.
Recommendations to parents
- Parents are an integral part of the school and the school expects them to cooperate in enforcing all guidelines that will benefit the child and assist in the smooth functioning of the school.
- Parents should understand that a good amount of steady and serious work is required for success. They should see that their children prepare their lessons and take active interests and participate in the activities of the school.
- Television viewing should be regulated and at least two to three hours of home study should be put in by the children.
- Parents are requested to maintain decorum and respect when talking to staff members.
- Parents are advised to read the rules through and sign them. Their attention is especially drawn to the rules regarding discipline, attendance, reports, examinations, and payment of fees.
- Parents are expected to check the school diary regularly and see that the homework assigned for the next day is done regularly.
- Criticism of a child’s teacher and the school in his/her presence should be avoided because it causes the child to lose his/her respect for the teacher, with the consequent failure to learn from him/her. Should you have a legitimate complaint, meet the Principal without fear.
- Parents should not merely sign report cards but examine them thoroughly as they are the yardstick for evaluating your child’s strengths and weaknesses.
- As the medium of instruction in the school is English, parents should provide ample opportunities to their children to converse in English at home.
- It is advisable to ensure that a student is not disturbed during examination days to attend family functions.
- The school will not be responsible for lost articles. A practical precautionary measure is to label all articles of the child, e.g. lunch box, water bottle, raincoat, etc..
- If a child is likely to be absent for a long period owing to illness, the Principal should be informed in writing, along with the doctor’s commendation for the rest.
- Parents are strictly forbidden to entertain teachers at their residence; neither should they give gifts or monetary rewards to the teachers.
